Description
Sometimes the presence of a model really pervades a painting. This model had been a professional artists’ model for years on both the East and West Coast. I think you can see the dignity in her bearing and her profile speaks volumes. The red sun hat is, of course, a very strong shape and color, and I’ve named the piece after it because it really is the first thing you see, but the strength of that profile and the many colors in that “cafe au lait” skin are what really speak to me in this painting.
