I love painting the figure, especially with a particularly inspiring model. When a model has a presence and a sense of what makes an interesting and compelling pose, it’s inspiring for the painter. This model definitely had a sense of what makes a dramatic pose with lyrical lines and powerful light. Though the dynamic strokes and transparency in the background add movement, energy and space to this piece, the beauty and grace of the model are central, and she has solidity in spite of appearing to float in her dancer’s pose.
